Eileen Flannigan - Alcohol Advice and Consultancy We are a new service which I, Eileen Flannigan, started a few months ago as I am passionate about recovery. After working in a locally commissioned drug and alcohol service for 6 years, I recognised a need for something in between the services they offer and private residential rehabilitation.
We will carry out consultations either as home visits or private meeting rooms in convenient locations to suit. Prior to being involved in this line of work I had a drink problem myself. After 3 alcohol detoxes, I was fortunate to go into a residential rehab for 18 weeks and I graduated with pride in December 2011. I continued with aftercare groups and became a volunteer, working mostly at the local hospital with the alcohol liaison team and patients in their care. After completing a NVQ level 3 in advice and guidance, I was successful in obtaining paid employment, as a recovery support worker for the local alcohol service. Through council tender procedures this changed over the years to various organisations and it also became a combined drug and alcohol service. It has been a pleasure for me to be involved with people who have managed to make changes and watch their progress.
