About me
Rebecca Sparkes is a fully trained psychotherapist and addictions counsellor, with over 15 years experience of working with clients, both in private practice and in the NHS.
Rebecca specialises in addictions (alcohol, recreational drugs, prescription drugs), eating disorders (including anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia and exercise addictions), anxiety, depression and compulsive behaviours (online addictions, gambling, compulsive spending, sex addiction). Rebecca uses a variety of approaches – integrative psychotherapy, CBT, creative techniques, and family systems therapy – to help each client better understand the issues beneath the addiction itself. She offers each client a safe, supportive and non-judgement space to forge their recovery. Not all harmful behaviours are “addictions”. Rebecca works with clients for whom food, alcohol or shopping becomes a crutch in times of stress or anxiety and depression. Sometimes, it is depression or anxiety which brings a client to therapy. Often a relationship or family issue is causing a client to use alcohol or substances. All of these difficulties can be brought to therapy and looked at in a supportive and safe environment. Rebecca trained at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education, where she gained her Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy. She is a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists). She is also a certified Trauma Counsellor.
