7 Day Rehab – As an initial form of treatment, this will involve counselling, therapy sessions, medically supervised detox programmes and wellness activities. This starting point can be sufficient for some people to begin their recovery journey, whilst others may choose to extend their stay. This can take place online, in a rehab clinic (inpatient) or whilst visiting a clinic each day (outpatient).
14 Day Rehab – For more thorough treatment, a 14-day programme may be needed to help with GBL addiction. Treatment includes counselling, CBT, group therapy and structured activities to help you overcome dependency.
28 Day Rehab – A one-month rehab stay provides comprehensive support with all the treatments mentioned, with options to stay for 28 days in the rehab clinic (inpatient) or to stay at home and visit each day (outpatient).
90 Day GBL Rehab – A 90-day or three-month stay is a longer recovery period that may offer a combination of inpatient and outpatient care. The extended timeframe gives you additional support to recover properly and avoid early relapse.
GBL Detox – Online or Inpatient – Online rehab is now available to help monitor your withdrawal under professional supervision. You get access to 24/7 phone support and can receive therapy through one-to-one calls and virtual group therapy sessions.
Inpatient and Outpatient Rehab – You have the option of staying in the clinic overnight (inpatient) or visiting the clinic each day (outpatient). Outpatient treatment can be more cost-effective as you’re not paying for accommodation and overnight care, and some people thrive with this flexibility. Others benefit more from inpatient care, which provides a focused, supportive environment away from triggers.
Ongoing Support and Aftercare – Also known as secondary treatment, there are various follow-on treatments available after rehab to help prevent relapse. This may include having a sponsor, access to a support line, attending therapy groups and being part of a recovery community organisation.
GBL (gamma-butyrolactone) is a chemical that converts to GHB in the body shortly after consumption. It’s a powerful central nervous system depressant that’s commonly used recreationally for its euphoric and disinhibiting effects.
GBL is particularly dangerous because it’s often sold as a legal alternative to GHB, but it carries all the same risks — and more. The concentration of GBL in products can vary wildly, making it incredibly easy to accidentally overdose. Even a small miscalculation in dosage can lead to unconsciousness, seizures, respiratory failure, or death.
Studies show that regular GBL users are at high risk of developing rapid physical dependence, with some people becoming addicted within just weeks of regular use. The withdrawal process can be severe and medically dangerous without proper supervision.
You should consider reaching out for professional help if you:
Use GBL regularly to relax, socialise, or cope with stress
Feel anxious, shaky, or unable to sleep when you stop using
Need to take more GBL to achieve the same effects as before
Have tried to quit but struggled with intense cravings or withdrawal symptoms
Experience blackouts, memory loss, or hospital visits related to GBL use
Find your use is affecting relationships, work, or daily responsibilities
Are worried about the amount or frequency of your use but can’t cut down
Even if you’re unsure whether your use qualifies as an addiction, it’s always better to talk to someone. Our trained advisors can assess your situation confidentially and explain your treatment options.

GBL addiction develops when you become physically and psychologically dependent on the substance, and it begins to interfere with your daily life, health, and relationships.
Physical Symptoms: Regular GBL use can cause tremors, sweating, confusion, memory problems, poor coordination, and severe fatigue. You may also experience nausea, headaches, and difficulty concentrating. Long-term use can damage your liver, kidneys, and nervous system.
Behavioural Changes: If you find yourself using GBL more frequently, hiding your use from others, or prioritising it over work, family, or other responsibilities, these are strong indicators of addiction. You may also find yourself unable to enjoy activities or feel normal without using GBL.
Increased Tolerance: A clear sign of GBL dependence is needing to use more of the substance to achieve the same effects. As your body builds tolerance, you’re forced to take higher doses, which dramatically increases the risk of overdose and serious health complications.
Dangerous Withdrawal Symptoms: If you’ve developed physical dependence on GBL, stopping suddenly can trigger severe withdrawal symptoms including anxiety, insomnia, tremors, rapid heartbeat, confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, and seizures. GBL withdrawal is considered one of the most dangerous drug withdrawals and must be managed under medical supervision to ensure your safety.
